The
Glendale Playgroup
Our
Playgroup is a registered charity and is situated in the mobile
on the Wooler First School site – between the school and
Sure Start.
Sessions
are as follows:
Every morning from 9.00am – 11.30am
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 12.30 –
3.00pm.
Only pre-school children can attend on a Wednesday and/or Friday.
They have the option of staying all day – 9.00am to 3.00pm
– or just for the morning or afternoon session.
Children
are eligible to start Playgroup in the term that they are three
years old, providing they are toilet trained. There are three
intakes: September, January and April. An opportunity will be
made available for you and your child to visit Playgroup before
the start date when you will be invited to attend one of the sessions,
meet the staff and look around.
During
the sessions children participate in a variety of activities,
which will encourage them in their individual development. The
activities are the areas of learning from the Foundation Stage
of the National Curriculum which are: Creative Development; Mathematical
Development; Language and Literacy; Physical Development; Knowledge
of the World; Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Most
importantly we want children to enjoy themselves, make new friend
and have fun. After an activity has ended the children are encouraged
to tidy up and then sit down together for a snack, which consists
of a drink of milk/water and fruit/biscuit.
Each
Wednesday morning the children get used to a school environment
by attending assembly at Wooler First School. They sit with the
school’s pupils and participate in prayers and listening
to a story. Afterwards they do PE in the school hall, using apparatus
etc. The children also get the chance to sample school dinners
in the school dining room before they start school.
Wooler
First School keeps close links with the Playgroup so that thechildren
there regard the school as a familiar part of their lives and
not something special and perhaps intimidating.
Playgroup
has six members of staff and a voluntary assistant. The staff,
together with a committee made up of parents or carers, volunteer
to take on certain administrative roles for a year (or more!).
Playgroup cannot function without this extra help so when you
register your child we hope that you will serve a term on the
committee.
Playgroup,
as a charity, receives no outside funding (apart from Government
funding for 3 and 4 year olds where applicable) so must be financed
by donations, fund raising events and session charges alone. The
fees are as follows:
Morning or afternoon session = £3.75
All day sessions = £7.50 + £1.50 lunch cover
There is also a termly registration fee of £2.00
Fees
are calculated on a half termly basis and must be paid before
the end of term. Fees can be paid in a lump sum, daily or weekly,
but full payment is required through absence, holidays and illness.
